October Updates

I couldn't think of a good title. Sorry.

Updates!

Ahoy hoi!

Trying a new format this go’round. I’ve got a few updates for you and some general nonsense, so, let’s get to it!

#DVPit and KidLitGN

Wednesday, October 8th was DVPit day on Bluesky. For those who aren’t aware, DVPit is an even where marginalized creators from a variety of communities can pitch their stories to editors and agents. This includes not just people of color, but those with chronic conditions, disabilities, neurodivergence, LGBTQA+, and various religious groups.

I pitched a story I have been working on about a teenaged girl who is a necromancer, and her buddy, Death. You know, a nice funny story for kids.

Here’s what the pitch looked like in the wild. (there were 4 or 5 iterations of it, as you could pitch one idea up to six times.)

  • It’s a mystery, but it’s not really dark or horror like, despite the characters. It’s more buddy comedy with paranormal activity thrown in. Columbo meets Expedition Unknown and a side of Sixth Sense.

  • I also pitched the same story to KidLitGN! That’s a different pitching event that invites creators to pitch their stories, or themselves as artists. I pitched myself as an artist too.

I don’t really expect to get any interest from these, but it’s good practice to get your work out there and in front of lots of eyeballs.

  • It also helped me figure out what my portfolio is missing, and what it needs to help attract more of the projects I want. Updating that with new art will be another, ongoing, long term project.

The KCU Anthology Has Arrived!

IT’S HERE! It’s finally here!

The KCU Anthology is here!

Ok, the digital version is, and you, yes you, can read it! Click here to download and enjoy a ton of kid friendly comics!

Miscellaneous nonsense

  • SCBWI North and East Bay is having it’s bi-annual, in person conference on the 18th or October. I’ll be there as an attendee. If you’re going too, please find me and say hi.

  • Someone on Bsky pitched the most amazing Halloween Voyager comic idea, and I am going to make it. It will likely be a slow, long term project, but how can I say no to the sheer awesomeness of combining Trek AND Halloween?!

  • I’ll be making a comic for the Co-Op’s Oops All Comics zine again for NIF. Look for that next year.

  • First check in for the flashback based anthology I am in is next week! My story is ready to go! The drawings? Eh, not so much. But there’s still lots of time to rough it out. Bog Hag and Bezz will ride again, this time into the past. High School was awkward for everyone, even muppets and Bog Hags.

  • I am making a zine about Grand Designs. I have been posting in progress shots on bsky, but I am going to move them to either a blog, located on my website, or to my Patreon. (which just launched today, but is still very much a work in progress)

Zine in progress

That’s all for now.

Be on the lookout for more info about my blog and Patreon, when they drop. Until then, Happy Halloween month!
